The session is a fusion of Pilates with its precision, strength and control and flow, breath control and flexibility that comes from Yoga.
There are quite a lot of similarities in both practices as well as quite a few differences: Pilates is purely a body orientated activity, while Yoga brings mindfulness and breath work into the physical world of postures.
The knowledge of Pelvic alignment and core control that comes from Pilates helps with the postural awareness in yoga. We engage exactly the same muscles in Pilates as we do in Yoga when we work with body ‘locks’ or Bhandas.
I had been teaching Pilates for quite a few years before I got into Yoga and it definitely helped me a lot in my Yoga journey.
Engaging the pelvic floor and abdominals are the fundamental rules of Pilates. In yoga this engagement will be translated into activating Mula (root lock) and Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal and diaphragmatic lock). There’s also the third lock in Yoga – throat one – Jalandhara Bandha. It is mainly activated during breathing exercises.
To translate it into the modern language: bandhas help you regulate and control all your internal systems, hormonal, sexual, metabolic, digestive, and more.
We will work on strengthening your core, working on the balance and on many other aspects.
The early bird price is £12 and will be going up to £15 from the 14th ofMay. ***Those attending the April Workshop will have till the 7th of May to book a space in the session for £10. Please message me and I’ll send you a link***
